A backyard pool is fun for the entire family and an investment with years of value and memories to come, but it can quickly become dangerous if proper safety precautions aren’t met. Pool safety equipment is a great idea if you have, or are thinking of building, your own swimming pool. There are several products for owners to consider adding to the backyard pool area that will increase safety. These products help keep everyone from young children to older adults to pets and everyone in between safe. We offer a variety of pool safety equipment and products specially designed to fit the aesthetic and safety needs of your home.
Pool Fences
Pool fences are a very common way to ensure the safety and well being of those in the backyard. These fences are generally gate-locked and childproof. There are a variety of pool fences to choose from. Clunky old visually unappealing fences are a thing of the past. Thing sleek, see through or contemporary, the options are endless. Some include: four-sided isolation, aluminum, temporary, removable, steel, wood, composite, chainlink, vinyl, perimeter, and more. The different materials add different benefits depending on what you choose.
Pool Safety Nets
Pool safety nets are a great way to provide a secure barrier without adding fencing that could potentially take away some available backyard space. The nets work on a pulley system. Pulleys are built into the center of the pool net for easy removal and replacement of the net within a few minutes. The key is that the squares on the net are small so that children can’t fall through. This is not a complete solution however, it is a safety barrier and children should not be left alone near the pool. This is not a safety cover and is not designed to hold the weight of a person.
Pool Safety Covers
A pool cover is an extremely beneficial piece of pool safety equipment. A safety cover is different than winter and solar covers. Pool safety covers must be able to hold a minimum of 485 pounds per five square feet. There are different types of safety covers. Mesh safety covers work for long term use, including winter time. They do not require a lot of maintenance and they allow for draining for things like snow. Solid covers are similar, but they do not drain out heavy rain or snow –which can create puddles over the pool and make the cover sag. Mesh and solid covers can are both anchored to a deck with straps. These anchors pull the cover tight over the pool.
Alarms
Alarms can include: pool alarms, gate alarms, window alarms, door alarms, perimeter alarms, and more. You’ll have to take into account your needs and your budget to know what type is best for you. They definitely help to keep the pool safer by notifying you of any activity in the alarmed areas. If you want to know whether or not children are heading outside by the pool or if someone is trying to open the gate to get into the pool area, alarms are a great option for you. Motion detectors are another form of alarm that can increase pool safety in your backyard.
Anti-Entrapment
Anti-entrapment equipment can stop suction entrapment from occurring. This happens when a swimmer gets pulled down by the suction of the drain. Having a vacuum release system allows a release when the drain becomes blocked. It is a quick way to prevent injury and death.
Railings
Hand and stair rails are a simple and effective way to add an extra layer of protection to swimmers. These also work as an assisting tool for unsteady or unbalanced swimmers while entering or exiting the pool.
